Operation Halt II seizes 30, destroys 4 and immobilises 4 excavators




The Ghana Armed Forces' Operation Halt II squad has captured 30, destroyed 4, and immobilized 4 excavators. 


This operation comes after Operation Halt II, which was relaunched on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, to combat illegal mining in river bodies and forest reserves. 


The Operation Halt II team also "destroyed 103 Changfan machines, nine water pumping machines, five generator sets, two fuel storage tanks and other improvised mining equipment and structures," according to a release signed by Naval Captain Michael Addo Larbi, Director of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces.

In addition, the Operation Halt II crew captured one Motor King tricycle and six motorcycles. 


The operation was carried out at Kade, Ofoase, Oda, and Pra Anom along the banks of the Rivers Birim and Pra in the Southern Command Area of Operational Responsibility, according to the announcement. 



The Central Command locations at Yawkrom, Agroyesum, and Takorase along the River Offin were also included in the drill, it was noted.

Eight suspected illegal miners were detained at Banda Nkwanta in the Northern Command Area of Operational Responsibility by the Operation Halt II team.
