Hogbetsotso: Sights and sounds in Anlo

Every year, on the first Saturday in November, the Hogbetsotso festival is celebrated by the residents of Anlo in the Volta Region.

It serves as a reminder of their 14th and 15th century escape from Notsie, Togo, to their current location.

The name of the celebration is taken from the Ewe language and means "coming from Hogbe (Notsie)" or "the feast of departure".

Following colonization, the Anlo state, headed by its chief, celebrates the occasion by performing ritualistic rites. And 2022 is no different this year.

Togbe Sri III, the Awmefia of Anlo State, led the locals in the festivities.

The people followed their chief to the durbar grounds, where the rites will take place, while singing and dancing and being carried in a palanquin.

Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia, Asantehene Otomfuo Osei-Tutu II, Kwahene, and Ga Mantse were among the dignitaries present.
