If you can't fire them, reassign Ofori-Atta and Adu Boahen, says AFAG to Akufo-Addo.

President Akufo-Addo has been urged by the Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) to reassign Finance Ministers Ken Ofori-Atta and Charles Adu Boahen if he is unable to dismiss them. 

The Alliance claims that the two ministers have failed to stop the Cedi's ongoing depreciation. 

In a press release released on Monday, they requested that President Akufo-Addo swiftly reassign the two to help the situation. 

They proclaimed, "Ken Ofori Atta and Charles Adu Boahen, the Minister of Finance and the Minister of State at the Ministry, must be relocated.

Additionally, they have requested that those who engage in illicit currency trading be punished by the President and the government. 

These individuals, according to AFAG, are also causing the Cedi to fall freely. 

A portion of the statement urged that "certain forex limitations targeted at those undermining the system, from the central bank through the commercial banks to the unlicensed forex operators" be implemented.

To address the depreciation of the cedi, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) will meet with bank management and operators of currency bureaux on Tuesday. 

The banks claim that the market overpricing of the dollar needs to be fixed, therefore that is another goal of the meeting. 

The exchange rate for one US dollar in the local currency is now 15.20

After trading on October 24 at $14.70, there has been a 3.4% depreciation in less than a day. 

At an urgent news conference on Monday, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the minister of information, also laid out the government's plans for dealing with the weakening of the Ghanaian cedi.
